Contact The Elderly are a non profit charity who organise monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties for people over 75, who live alone with little or no contact with family members. Members are picked up by volunteer drivers and spend afternoons at a volunteer host's home. I was asked to photograph one of the events. There wasn't a brief as such, but I knew in my mind what I wanted to capture and what I'm sure other's would like to see. It only made sense for me to photograph the members at their happiest, enjoying their time with friends and volunteers. These individuals had so many inspirational stories and past times. Some devastating. I wanted to show this, but by using their strength and not sadness as the factor. By making the members the sole focus of the image, it enables people to see the member's personalities and allows the viewer to make their own judgements and assumptions on their lives. And that's what I enjoy. To keep the mood of the image positive, I used warm hues and natural tones.
